Terra Drone and Sendai-City to Collaborate to Realize First Special Zone in Japan for Disaster Preparedness
– The Use of Drones for Revitalizing Tohoku from 3/11 Quake –
Tokyo, Japan– March 28, 2016 – Terra Drone Co., Ltd., today announced the collaboration with Sendai-City, Miyagi Prefecture in order to realize the use of drones for disaster preparedness. The test flight was conducted in Sendai-City on 27th of March to celebrate its collaboration, with Parliamentary Secretary and the Mayor of Sendai-City as attendees.
Sendai-City in Miyagi prefecture has been actively working on the development of cutting-edge technology, such as unmanned car and robots, in collaboration with private sector companies and universities. The aim is to create a cutting-edge industry in the Tohoku area and revitalize the area massively affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake.
Drones are the one of cutting-edge technologies that Sendai-City seeks to utilize. While Japan tightens rules on flying drones, the Japanese government has designated Sendai as a special “deregulated zone for social innovation” —areas that enjoy exemptions from certain laws and regulations, and therefore Sendai has begun to support the drone-based industry.
The test flight was conducted as in order to promote the use of drones for disaster preparedness. Terra Drone was selected as a partner company to realize this vision.
