Tokyo, January 22 to 23, 2025 – Terra Drone Corporation, a leading drone and Urban Air Mobility (UAM) technology company headquartered in Japan, announced to have conducted Indonesia’s first(1) demonstration of multi-drone operations utilizing an Unmanned Traffic Management (UTM) platform, in the suburbs of Jakarta. This milestone event is part of the “Industrial Cooperation Programme in the Global South (2) through Technology Transfer” (Project Name: Practicality Verification Project for UAS Traffic Management (UTM) in the Indonesian Marke), supported by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI) .
Driving the Future of Drone Adoption in Indonesia
Indonesia is poised to become one of Southeast Asia’s most dynamic drone markets, with growing demand for drone solutions in sectors such as infrastructure inspection, large-scale agriculture, and inter-island logistics. As one of the world’s largest oil and gas producers and home to expansive palm plantations, Indonesia requires advanced aerial management systems to ensure safe, efficient, and scalable drone operations.
With its established local subsidiary, Terra Drone Indonesia, the company is already a leading provider of drone services in the region. Furthermore, Terra Drone is supported by its global UTM expertise through its group company Unifly, a leading UTM technology provider based in Belgium with a world-class track record in national-level UTM implementation, and Aloft Technologies, the largest FAA-approved UAS service provider in the United States.
By combining these global capabilities, Terra Drone have demonstrated how UTM can revolutionize airspace management in Indonesia, accelerating the commercial use of drones and laying the groundwork for future nationwide implementation.
Demonstration Highlights
The demonstration showcased the UTM platform’s capabilities ability and drones equipped with ADS-B (3) and Remote ID (4) to manage multiple drone operations in real-time under various scenarios:
- Agriculture: Demonstrating precision drone spraying for large-scale farming such as palm plantations.
- Logistics: Exploring drone delivery solutions for inter-island and remote logistics.
- Security & Monitoring: Enabling drone surveillance for infrastructure inspection and emergency response.

Why This Matters for Indonesia
The country is positioned as the second-largest potential drone market in ASEAN (5) and is expected to have the world’s fourth-largest population in 2024 (6). These factors indicate considerable growth opportunities for drone applications, and implementing a robust UTM system is a key step toward unlocking the full potential of drones in Indonesia.
By simulating these critical applications, Terra Drone has validated how UTM can provide safe, coordinated drone operations, addressing challenges such as airspace congestion and emergency management. This program aims to apply UTM systems for the widespread drone use in Indonesian cities, including Jakarta and the new capital, Nusantara (7), across sectors like agriculture, surveying, logistics, and security. It also strengthens economic ties with Global South countries and supports Indonesia’s economic growth. This demonstration represented a significant move toward commercializing UTM services in Indonesia, positioning the country as a model for advanced drone ecosystems in Southeast Asia.
