April 25, 2025

Tokyo, April 25, 2025 Terra Drone Corporation, the leading drone service provider, is pleased to announce that its subsidiary, Terra Drone Indonesia, participated in “BESTINFEST 2024,” an event organized by PT Aviasi Pariwisata Indonesia (hereinafter referred to as “Injourney”), the first (1) state-owned holding company in Indonesia for the aviation and tourism for supporting Injourney Airports Innovation. At the event, Terra Drone Indonesia showcased its drone-based inspection technologies for the aviation sector which is supporting Injourney Airports Innovation namely “Using Drone Technology for Safety Management Improvement at Injourney Group and Other Potential”. The company aims to contribute to improving the safety and efficiency of aviation infrastructure, while enhancing partnerships with companies and government agencies  in these sectors to support the development of the drone ecosystem.

Objective and Background

BESTINFEST 2024 was held to promote and introduce innovative technologies in Indonesia’s aviation and tourism industries. Injourney oversees various national infrastructure operations, including airports, commercial facilities, and hospitality services. Injourney Airports, a subsidiary of the group, is responsible for managing state-owned airports across the country.

Drone technologies are increasingly recognized as an essential tool in the aviation and tourism sectors, enabling them to provide fast, accurate, and real-time data, helping to reduce human error and significantly improve operational efficiency compared to conventional manual inspection methods. Since 2020, Terra Drone Indonesia has aligned with Injourney Airports to conduct a joint study on the use of drones for runway inspections. This project aims to clarify the benefits and challenges of drone-based inspections through research, documentation, and stakeholder consultations.

As a result of this collaboration, the joint initiative between Terra Drone Indonesia and Injourney Airports was selected as one of the Top 10 nominations out of 130 innovation proposals in the “Best Idea and Best Implementation of the Year 2024” category at BESTINFEST 2024. This recognition resulted in Terra Drone Indonesia being officially invited to present its drone technologies for the aviation sector at the event.

Event Overview

The event took place at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII), a cultural facility operated by Injourney. Terra Drone Indonesia highlighted several case studies demonstrating how drone technologies are utilized to support airport operations and security.

In 2021, Terra Drone Indonesia conducted a drone demonstration for runway inspection at Raja Haji Fisabilillah Airport, which is managed by Injourney Airports. Conventionally, runway inspections required personnel to drive along the runway and conduct visual inspections. By using drones, however, the process becomes faster, more data-driven, and less susceptible to human error.

At the event, Terra Drone Indonesia also presented examples of drone utilization for infrastructure inspections, surveillance, and security monitoring to support airport operations. Particularly in the maintenance inspection for critical infrastructure such as runways, the company demonstrated the use of autonomous drone technologies, highlighting their great potential to enhance inspection efficiency and accuracy. Furthermore, Terra Drone Indonesia introduced applications of drone technology in the tourism sector, including:

  • Mapping of tourist destinations
  • Environmental monitoring
  • Inspection of hard-to-access areas
  • Firefighting support and cleaning of high-rise buildings

Future Prospects

Terra Drone Indonesia’s participation in BESTINFEST 2024 was recognized as a significant step toward strengthening collaboration between the public and private sectors in developing Indonesia’s drone ecosystem, and it extended beyond a technological demonstration. Moving forward, Terra Drone will continue to expand the use of its drone technologies through its partnership with Injourney, aiming to contribute to the advancement of the aviation and tourism industries in Indonesia and across Southeast Asia.
