Key Points: First Unit Deployment Conducted Through Amazing Drones, with Further Expansion Planned Based on Real-World Operational Evaluation
Tokyo, April 17, 2026 – Terra Drone Corporation, a leading drone and Urban Air Mobility (UAM) technology company headquartered in Japan, Terra Drone Corporation (Head Office: Shibuya, Tokyo; CEO: Toru Tokushige; hereinafter “Terra Drone”) announces that operational deployment in Ukraine has commenced for the “Terra A1” interceptor drone (1). This deployment is being executed through Amazing Drones, one of Terra Drone’s investee companies, with whom the product was jointly announced on March 31.

Background
In recent years, the criteria for evaluating defense equipment have changed significantly as tactics centered on unmanned systems have become increasingly sophisticated. In certain regions in particular, it has been confirmed that approximately 5,000 drones are launched on a monthly basis, requiring the ability to respond to sustained and large-scale threats.
Under such circumstances, defense equipment is evaluated not only on its specifications or performance in test environments, but also on whether the technology has been continuously operated and proven effective in real-world conditions—that is, whether it is combat-proven.
In Ukraine, moreover, a short-cycle deployment model is commonly adopted, in which equipment is first introduced at the unit level and then deployed further based on the results of evaluations conducted in actual operational environments. In this process, rapid improvements are repeatedly made based on feedback from the field, making not only technical performance but also speed of improvement and operational adaptability key factors.
In addition, conventional air defense systems that use expensive interception methods against attacks by low-cost drones have been increasingly questioned from the standpoint of cost efficiency. For example, while attack drones may be manufactured at a cost of approximately JPY 3 million to JPY 8 million per unit, some interception measures can cost several hundred million yen.
By contrast, there have been reported cases in which interceptor drones have been developed and operated at a relatively low cost of approximately JPY 300,000 to JPY 1 million, drawing attention to them as a more sustainable means of defense.
Furthermore, these low-cost, mass-deployment drone tactics are increasingly being replicated and adopted by various countries, and are therefore recognized as a security challenge not limited to any one region. For this reason, combat-proven knowledge and experience are attracting attention as practical validation data that may also be applicable in other regions.
Details of the Initiative
Against this backdrop, Terra Drone has commenced real-world operational deployment of the “Terra A1” interceptor drone in Ukraine through Amazing Drones.
As part of this initiative, deployment for defense purposes has already begun with a military unit, and evaluation and feedback collection under actual operating conditions are currently underway.
This initial deployment is based on a phased introduction model in which equipment is first provided to a unit and then expanded through additional deployments depending on the results of evaluations conducted in the field. Performance verification and the identification of operational issues are currently being carried out by the unit already equipped with the system, while discussions are underway regarding further deployments and expansion to other units.
The “Terra A1” was developed based on a design philosophy centered on real-world operations, with particular emphasis on rapid deployability and ease of use in the field. Data obtained through actual deployment, together with feedback from operators on the ground, can be incorporated into product improvements and operational optimization on an ongoing basis, enabling continuous enhancement of the system.
Terra Drone places strong importance on the knowledge gained through deployment in real-world environments and is committed to strengthening a field-driven cycle of product development and improvement. This initiative represents an important step in validating the practicality and operational adaptability of the product within a deployment model that begins with evaluation in actual operating conditions.
Looking ahead, once the effectiveness of interception against low-cost, mass-deployed unmanned attack systems such as Shahed has been sufficiently verified in real-world environments, Terra Drone plans to move forward with broader deployment based on the evaluation results and strengthen its mass-production framework. At the same time, the company will also consider expansion into other regions facing similar challenges and will continue promoting the product as a technology that contributes to improved safety and operational efficiency.
User’s Comment
The Chief of the Anti-Shahed Unit of the Chernihiv Region Defense Forces stated:
“Terra A1 is easy to control and responds very smoothly even during sharp turns. The digital daytime camera captures targets clearly, making it extremely important for daytime operations. Safety and usability clearly reflect actual user needs.”
