Terra Drone Announces Successful Interception of a Long-Range Unmanned Aerial Threat by Its Interceptor Drone “Terra A1”

Key Point: Releases Operational Footage, Highlighting Combat-Proven Technology for Protecting Lives and Critical Infrastructure

Tokyo, April 28, 2026 –Terra Drone Corporation (Head Office: Shibuya, Tokyo; CEO: Toru Tokushige; hereinafter “Terra Drone”) announces that Terra A1 (Note 1), the interceptor drone jointly developed with Amazing Drones, a portfolio company of its subsidiary Terra Inspectioneering, has demonstrated its capability to respond to long-range unmanned aerial threats under actual operational conditions. Terra Drone is also releasing footage of the operation.
This marks a significant milestone in the interceptor drone business announced on March 31, 2026, and represents an important step in validating the effectiveness of Terra A1 in real-world operating environments.

Background

In recent years, addressing low-cost, mass-deployed long-range unmanned aerial threats has become a common challenge for countries around the world amid an increasingly complex global security environment.

Long-range unmanned aerial vehicles are now recognized as a new category of threat, capable of reaching critical infrastructure and urban areas from significant distances. Because these threats can be deployed continuously at relatively low cost, relying solely on conventional high-cost interception measures has raised concerns in terms of sustainability and cost efficiency.

In practice, many countries have responded to such threats using expensive systems, including interceptor missiles that can cost hundreds of millions of yen per unit. At the same time, the ongoing use of such systems has intensified the need for new alternatives that offer greater cost-effectiveness and long-term sustainability.

More recently, threats posed by unmanned aerial vehicles have also begun to affect civilian life and social infrastructure. As a result, the importance of building a sustainable air defense framework has grown significantly, not only to protect human lives but also to preserve essential societal functions.

Against this backdrop, the value expected of defense equipment is also changing. Beyond performance specifications and results obtained in test environments, technologies whose effectiveness has been verified under actual operational conditions—hereinafter referred to as combat-proven technologies—are becoming increasingly important in equipment selection.

The operational footage being released this time is considered one real-world example that addresses this shared global challenge, and we believe it offers practical insights that can contribute to future technological development and the advancement of defense systems.

In addition, in some regions, procurement decisions are not driven solely by long-term central government tenders; in certain cases, rapid adoption decisions are made at the operational level. In such environments, even new technologies and new market entrants may gain traction more quickly when their products are combat-proven, creating the potential for relatively rapid market expansion.

Overview of the Initiative

In collaboration with Amazing Drones, Terra Drone has been advancing both the development of Terra A1, its interceptor drone, and its evaluation under actual operational conditions. We are now releasing operational footage demonstrating Terra A1’s capability to respond to long-range unmanned aerial threats in a real-world operating environment.

This achievement demonstrates that Terra A1’s mobility, practical utility, and adaptability in the field have been validated under real-world operational conditions, and we regard it as a major step forward for our defense business.

In addition, we believe that a case in which an unmanned aerial threat reportedly costing several million yen can be addressed by an interceptor drone operable at a cost of approximately JPY 400,000 carries important implications from the perspectives of both sustainability and cost efficiency in defense.

Future Outlook

Building on this achievement and the release of the operational footage, Terra Drone will move forward with establishing a mass production framework and exploring opportunities for deployment in regions facing similar security challenges.

The Company positions the defense sector as a medium- to long-term growth area and is advancing a multifaceted strategy that includes interceptor drones, operational support aircraft, related software, and the development of a global supply chain.

Going forward, Terra Drone aims to contribute to the establishment of a sustainable security infrastructure and expand its business opportunities in the defense market by delivering technologies that help ensure civilian safety, protect critical infrastructure, and preserve essential societal functions around the world.
